Custom software company Telliant produces Digital Health Ecosystem
Telliant is a custom software development company with expertise in digital health, fintech, education, supply chain, and hospitality industries. Telliant takes a company’s idea for a solution and builds the software to create it. The company’s largest market is healthcare, but they also have deep domain expertise in fintech and cybersecurity. The company is headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia but has a development center in Chennai, India. This development center consists of a team that has knowledge in mobile applications and software platforms. They can create the product that the client desires.

CEO Seth Narayanan and his wife Kathleen founded Telliant in 2010 after building software solutions and supporting companies in the fintech space. Seth is originally from Chennai, India which is why the development center is based there. They have great track record of success in the digital healthcare area. For example, Telliant has developed three different electronic medical record (EMR) systems, multiple telemedicine apps and patient engagement systems, as well as a number of other healthcare apps.

Using digital health as a solution for health problems streamlines business for the healthcare providers and convenience for the patients. The company is currently working on a medical device software application that will have the ability to address a problem called “wrong site surgery.” Wrong site surgery is an incident when surgery is conducted on the wrong patient, the wrong body part, or the wrong side of the body. This software will enable nurses to go through a process with the application to ensure that the surgeons are working on the correct person, the correct limb, and the correct side of the body. This will save doctors and hospitals from suffering through malpractice lawsuits as well as save many lives.

Telliant became a TAG sponsor three years ago. Before the sponsorship, two of Telliant’s senior executives were closely involved with TAG. Seth Narayanan has served on the TAG Digital Health Board of Directors since 2016, and Chris Karabinos has been on the board since 2011 serving as the Chair for the last three years.

The company’s biggest contribution to Georgia’s digital health community has been the creation and donation of the Digital Health Ecosystem platform. Telliant worked with other board members and volunteers for nine months to develop a functional platform designed to help digital health companies in Georgia connect. The Ecosystem launched on March 30th, 2022, at the Digital Health Summit. The ecosystem provides a way for users to easily explore the digital health companies that have chosen Georgia as their home.

Telliant will be a TAG Digital Health sponsor for years to come and will continue to maintain the Digital Health Ecosystem website.

Their focus is on respiratory technology enabling the understanding of pulmonary diseases and respiratory health. Strados’s Co-Founder and CEO, Nick Delmonico started the company as a result of his own health struggles. He is a lifelong asthma sufferer and realized that he had a hard time controlling the asthma and knowing when his symptoms were worsening. He saw a need for a solution in the market. Delmonico set out to develop a new way to monitor lung sounds remotely and objectively. This endeavor resulted in the creation of Strados Labs. In the U.S., 1 in 5 patients return to the hospital within 30-days due to lung health problems related to asthma, RSV, and sleep apnea, amongst others. Delmonico noticed that there was no convenient or effortless way for caregivers to capture abnormal patient lung sounds and patterns when a patient has no supervision from a doctor in their day-to-day life. This puts the patient at risk of pulmonary decompensation between appointments. In response, Strados Labs developed the RESP™, a lung sound monitor with a connected platform, and recently received FDA 510k clearance for this product. The RESP™ is a disruptive technology that is well positioned to meet the growing demand for remote access to respiratory healthcare. Patients wear a small, non-invasive device that connects to the Smart Sensor Platform allowing easy remote detection of changes in lung behavior in real time, all the time. Strados Labs has 15 full-time employees and eight part-time employees with 10 based in Georgia. Strados has a technical team with deep expertise in the medical device industry. They enjoy being based in Georgia because of the opportunity that the area provides. Atlanta is home to The Georgia Institute of Technology. Richard Powers, Cofounder of Strados says, “Being next to Georgia Tech is a great pipeline for talent. We can hire multiple former interns from the school as full-time employees allowing our company to grow and to utilize the young talent that is available.” Georgia is the home of the Strados Research & Development and operations efforts. They are a signature company for the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) at Georgia Tech. ATDC is a great environment for startups and Strados is strategically located near the campus to receive easy access to the college, its resources, and student talent. With $1 million in sales with big pharma, eight successful clinical trials, and four patents filed in the U.S., Strados Labs is making great strides in the healthcare community with its new technology. RESP™ has been proven to detect cough and wheeze automatically with 90%+ accuracy. Strados is paving the way for other digital healthcare companies with their developments and the company is excited to see what the future of Strados entails. As Georgia’s digital health community continues to grow the number and variety of funding sources, leverage the great talent coming out of its colleges and university systems, the future looks bright Georgia! July event promises to be engaging for all

TAG Digital Health is hosting a panel event in July over the topic of Patient Engagement asking the question, “How can healthcare providers leverage patient engagement technology to develop trust with their patients in the digital health journey?” This event guarantees to stir up an intelligent debate and discussion by the four panelists selected to participate.

When? July 28th from 7:30 to 9:15 AM Where? Georgia Tech Pediatric Technology Center – 950 Atlantic Dr. NW Atlanta, GA 30332 Register here: https://bit.ly/TAG-DH728

What is Patient Engagement?
Patient engagement combines both a patient’s ability to manage his or her own health care as well as their willingness to take preventative steps to reduce health issues. Many patients rely solely on their care providers for managing their health but that requires personalized attention, which can be challenging for providers. What those providers are trying to communicate to them is that they have the tools and the resources to manage a lot of their health on their own.

We sat down with the head of this event, Maurice Rosenbaum, to discuss what attendees could expect to hear at this event. Maurice outlined that patient engagement is one of the broadest topics in the healthcare industry. “How patient engagement looks varies from industry to industry within healthcare. Someone on the health insurance side could say ‘Well here is what we want our patients to be able to do’ versus someone on the academia side might be working with a family to self-monitor a chronic disease. By bringing these great speakers together, attendees will get the opportunity to hear how patient engagement technology is making a difference across all sectors of healthcare,” said Rosenbaum.

Building Trust
Rosenbaum added that although the panel discussion will center mostly on the broad topic of patient engagement, another aspect of this event is the discussion of trust within digital healthcare. The TAG Digital Health Ecosystem has 66 companies just in Georgia that have a version of a patient engagement component. “The topic of trust was incorporated into the discussion because when thinking about the pandemic and the cybersecurity attacks we hear about often, a general feeling of distrust between consumers and the healthcare industry has crept in. This is something that needs to be overcome, and digital patient engagement is a great tool to help providers do just that.”

Panelists at the event
At the event, attendees can expect to hear from four panelists all with different backgrounds and moderator, Robert PatrickCOO of PracticeTek. The advantage of having the panelists with backgrounds in different aspects of healthcare is that many viewpoints will be brought to the debate:
  • Jeff Gray created a memory app for patients with Alzheimer’s and their families and will be able to discuss patient engagement in the form of the family or caregiver taking the active role.
  • Leanne West is involved in the international children’s disease state and will be able to discuss engagement from a pediatric standpoint and what is required there.
  • Jennifer Sparks is representing Vacmobile and can give an insight into safely giving easy access to digital vaccination records.
  • Brad Fain is the Executive Director for CACP, and he has done work on the impact of technology of society and will speak to that.
  • The variety will allow attendees to get ideas of how to transform their thoughts on patient engagement and really see the broadness of the topic. TAG Digital Health is excited to host this event to the digital health community.
